Tips & techniques to improve how you communicate

This section contains practical ways to use NLP in your relationship with others, all of which are included in our NLP training courses and many of the articles were originally published in our newsletter.

  16. Soft eyes: Relax yourself and others with Soft Eyes
  17. But’ – one of the words to use with caution. The tiny little word that can sabotage our good intentions when communicating.
  18. Try’ – one of the words to use with caution. Try is a cop-out. Do it – or don’t do it.
  19. Representational systems: In NLP we usually rely on two ways of identifying which thinking system or representational system or ‘rep system’ a person is using – how they move their eyes and the predicate words and phrases they use
  20. NLP Eye Movements: These also called the Eye Accessing Cues. They providevaluable information about how a person is thinking from the directions in which their eyes most frequently move. See also Eye accessing clues and Learn to use the eye accessing signals
  21. NLP Predicates: The Predicates or ‘give-away’ words and phrases provide a basic clue on how best to communicate with someone
  22. Different Perspectives – the NLP technique for recognising the other person’s point of view. It is also known as Perceptual Positions
  23. Models of the World: in NLP we recognise that each of us has their own view of the reality i.e. we have Different ‘Models of the World’
  24. Modelling: the process which led to the development of NLP was Behavioural Modelling e. how to identify the key components in any skill
  25. Meta Programmes –Options & Procedures. Some people like to do things in a systematic manner – others like to go with the flow
  26. Rapport in NLP: How to create rapport and, importantly, how not to create rapport using NLP approaches
  27. NLP and Rapport: The best rapport comes from being genuinely interested in the other person – rather than mechanical techniques!
  28. Body language: the NLP approach to non-verbal communicating we are always communicating – even if it is sometimes only non-verbal only.
